Office Hours (Getting started with Backdrop CMS, Content Types and Fields)

We have no official facilitators for this session.

Office hours are a place where you can bring your questions to other Backdrop CMS site architects, developers, and designers for discussion and support.

In this session, let's focus on the basics of getting started with Backdrop CMS. This might include questions about content types and fields, but might also include any other questions you have about getting started with Backdrop CMS.

If you have questions about any of the following, this would be a good time to ask:

Welcome to Backdrop LIVE!

Welcome to Backdrop LIVE.

We will ask (but don't require) that everyone introduce themselves and tell us a little about their experience with or interest in Backdrop CMS. Other agenda items for this opening session:

  1. How Backdrop LIVE works
  2. Welcome message from Nate Lampton
  3. Opportunity to add topics to the schedule

Feb 29th Backdrop 2.x discussion

This discussion gave us a general idea of what we'd like to do with 2.x. The decisions reached are in no way final. Many of these things will need to be voted on and approved by the PMC, but more importantly, we'd like to hear feedback from the larger Backdrop community at the Backdrop LIVE event in April of 2024

Please keep in mind that our goal is to make the upgrade process from Backdrop 1.x to Backdrop 2.x as seamless as possible.

How to make CSS changes to Core?

We've been grappling with this problem for years, lacking any consensus on the best way forward. With discussions of Backdrop CMS 2.x underway, now seems like a good time to figure this out and make a decision.

In this discussion, I'd like to review the options available and see where the current consensus is at. Much time has passed since this was discussed in detail and some folks may have changed their opinions. Can we build towards a consensus solution?

This is one of those issues that might require a real-time discussion to break the log jam.

Sharpening tools for migrating Drupal 7 sites to Backdrop CMS

This discussion builds on conversations at various user groups and Midcamp session .  I will do a quick demo and then open Q and A session.

Drawing from real-world case studies we will dive into the technical intricacies of migrating from Drupal 7 to Backdrop CMS, offering practical tips, best practices, and common pitfalls to avoid. We will demo modules developed in 2023 that automate and simplify migrations

What can we learn from Modern Drupal Layout system?

At Midcamp I did a presentation that did a detailed comparison of how Layout Builder in modern Drupal compares to the layout system in Backdrop CMS. From this I learned some interesting lessons that I hope can be applied to the Backdrop CMS layout system.  I'll use this session to briefly review the lessons I learned and share my proposals. Looking for a discussion about how to improve the Layout system in Backdrop, based upon what we can learn from Drupal Layout Builder.
